Shree Chintamani Ganapati Temple – Theur, India

Introduction

The Chintamani Temple of Theur (Theyoor) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha (Chintamani Ganpati Theur), the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This temple is among the popular Ashtavinayaka temples, located 27.04 km from the Pune district in Maharashtra. Theur is situated in the Haveli Taluka of the Pune district, near the confluence of the Bhima River and the conjoined Mula and Mutha Rivers.

Theur is designated as the fifth temple to be visited on the Ashtavinayak Darshan tour or yatra. However, people often visit Theur second, after Morgaon, as it offers a more convenient route. The idol of the deity is self-manifested (swayambhu murti) and faces east (purvabhimukha), with its trunk turned to the left and beautiful diamonds embedded in its eyes. The idol is seated in a cross-legged position. Theur itself is an important mythological location, situated at the confluence of three major regional rivers: the Bhima, Mula, and Mutha. Lord Ganesha, as Chintamani Ganesha, is revered as the god who brings peace of mind and dispels all perplexities of the mind.
