Maha Ganapathy Temple, Edmonton, Canada

Introduction

In July 1978, a special and exciting event happened. His Holiness Sivaya Subramuniyaswami gave a beautiful black granite statue of Ganesha to a group of people. He blessed them, and they started doing Ganesha puja, which is a special kind of prayer, every day. This was a big deal because it marked the beginning of something that has continued ever since.

The statue, known as a murthi, didn’t stay in one place at first. It moved from one home to another, kind of like a traveling guest, bringing joy and spirituality wherever it went. But eventually, it found a permanent home in a temple in Edmonton, Canada. This journey from home to home before settling in its final spot makes the story even more interesting and shows how important the murthi of Ganesha has become to the people there.
