Shree Mayureshwar Ganapati Temple – Morgaon, India

Introduction

The Shri Moreshwar Ganpati Temple, also known as Shri Mayureshwar Ganpati Temple, is a special place dedicated to Lord Ganesha, who is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. This temple sits in Morgaon, which interestingly means the ‘Village of Peacocks’, and it’s located in the Pune District. If you’re coming from Pune city, it’s a journey of about 66.3 kilometers, or roughly an hour and 53 minutes, taking the Jejuri-Morgaon-Baramati Road or the Saswad – Bopdev – Pune Road to get there.

What makes this temple unique is that it marks the beginning and the end of a very important pilgrimage for devotees of Lord Ganesha called the Ashtavinayak Yatra, or Tour. This pilgrimage includes a visit to eight highly regarded Ganesha temples in Maharashtra, with the Moreshwar Ganpati Temple being one of them.

An interesting feature of the temple is the eleven (11) staircases leading up to it, which hold their own significance.
